Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Leaves NNPP, Returns to APC
Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the representative of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has officially ended his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin’s exit comes after the NNPP’s Kano State leadership expelled him for alleged anti-party activities, including repeated public criticism of the party and failure to comply with party obligations.
The expulsion, described by the NNPP chairman as a response to sabotage and betrayal, marked the culmination of growing tensions between Jibrin and the party leadership. Following the development, Jibrin announced his decision to rejoin the APC, signaling renewed alignment with the party’s policies and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts note that Jibrin’s return strengthens APC’s position in Kano State, where he remains an influential political figure.
His move is also seen as part of a broader trend of defections and realignments among politicians in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, as parties consolidate support in key constituencies.
While Jibrin has publicly rejoined the APC, the specifics of his role within the party are yet to be fully outlined. Party insiders suggest that he is expected to play a strategic role in grassroots mobilization and electioneering efforts in the northwestern region. His return underscores the fluid nature of Nigerian party politics, where political alliances continue to shift in response to both local and national developments.
