Enugu Arrests Fake Doctor, Seals Illegal Hospital
The Enugu State Government has arrested a man posing as a medical doctor and sealed an illegal hospital operating in Obollo-Etiti community of Udenu Local Government Area
The arrest, carried out by the Enugu State Ministry of Health’s Anti-Quackery Committee, followed credible intelligence that the suspect, identified as Kenneth Mamah, had been illegally treating patients and operating a health facility without any formal medical qualification or registration. Commissioner for Health, Prof. Emmanuel Obi, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, describing the incident as part of the state’s renewed clampdown on quack medical practices. He said the ministry acted swiftly to protect the lives of unsuspecting residents receiving treatment from the unqualified operator. The state government remains committed to safeguarding public health and will continue to track, arrest, and prosecute quacks endangering the lives of citizens,” Prof. Obi said. Officials from the ministry sealed off the illegal facility and handed the suspect over to security operatives for further investigation and prosecution. The commissioner warned residents against patronising unlicensed hospitals and unverified medical personnel, urging them to always check that health facilities are registered with the state and federal medical regulatory bodies. He further stated that the ministry would intensify monitoring of hospitals and clinics across Enugu State to ensure strict compliance with health regulations
