FG Condemns Sabotage on Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano Road, Warns Communities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned recent acts of sabotage on the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano highway, urging local communities to cooperate with authorities and avoid actions that could hinder road safety and security.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over infrastructure damage, criminal activity, and traffic disruptions along one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.

In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Works, the government described any deliberate interference with the highway as a threat to national development and public safety.

The statement emphasised that sabotage not only jeopardises the lives of travellers but also undermines ongoing rehabilitation and maintenance efforts aimed at improving road conditions.

Officials warned communities along the corridor to refrain from activities that could obstruct work or endanger motorists, including illegal blockages, unapproved construction, or destruction of road infrastructure. “We call on all residents to support the government’s efforts in ensuring the safety, security, and functionality of this vital highway,” the statement read.

The Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano road, a critical artery linking the Federal Capital Territory with northern states, has historically been plagued by accidents, road deterioration, and security challenges, including attacks by criminal gangs. The government said it remains committed to restoring and maintaining the highway while intensifying surveillance and collaborating with security agencies to prevent future sabotage.

Authorities also stressed that any individual or group found culpable for damaging the highway would face strict legal action, highlighting the federal government’s zero-tolerance policy toward acts that threaten infrastructure and endanger lives.

Residents and commuters along the corridor were urged to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies and cooperate with road maintenance teams.

The government reaffirmed that public support is crucial for the successful completion of ongoing road projects and for enhancing economic connectivity and national development.

This warning comes as part of broader federal efforts to improve critical transport infrastructure, reduce travel hazards, and ensure uninterrupted trade and mobility across northern and central Nigeria.
