Falconets Defeat Ghana 3-1 in WAFU B Opener
Nigeria’s Falconets began their WAFU B Women’s Cup campaign with a decisive 3-1 win against their rivals, the Black Princesses of Ghana, on Saturday.
The victory for Moses Aduku’s side was spearheaded by Janet Akeremkowei, who netted two goals, complemented by a late strike from Favour Nkwocha.
Akeremkowei, a striker for Bayelsa Queens, scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 40th minute. She quickly doubled the Falconets’ lead just before the halftime whistle.
Ghana attempted a comeback four minutes after the restart when Sarah Nyarko reduced the deficit. However, Favour Nkwocha sealed the win for Nigeria in the 88th minute, putting the score at 3-1.
The Falconets are scheduled to face the Young Amazons of Benin Republic in their next group game on Sunday morning.
