Shettima Returns to Abuja After Representing Nigeria at UN Climate Conference in Brazil
Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja following his participation in the 30th Session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, where he represented President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima’s visit to Brazil, which concluded on Thursday, November 7, involved high-level discussions on global climate action and sustainable development.
The conference, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in collaboration with the United Nations and other international partners, focused on advancing strategies to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
During the summit, the Vice President addressed the Leaders’ Climate Summit, delivering Nigeria’s official statement titled “The Rational Soul of Nature.”
The speech highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to environmental protection, climate-resilient policies, and sustainable development initiatives across the country.
Shettima’s engagement in COP30 also included interactions with international counterparts to explore collaborative opportunities in renewable energy, conservation efforts, and climate finance aimed at supporting developing nations.
Speaking after his return, aides to the Vice President noted that Nigeria’s participation underscores the country’s proactive role in global climate discourse and its commitment to translating international agreements into actionable domestic policies.
The UN Climate Change Conference in Belém attracted world leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts from around the globe, marking a critical platform for nations to strengthen their climate commitments ahead of COP31.
