Kebbi Governor Leads Interfaith Prayers for Peace and Unity Amid Insecurity
The Kebbi State Government, led by Governor Nasir Idris, organized an interfaith prayer session in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, seeking divine intervention to address the growing security challenges in the state and across Nigeria.
Governor Idris, addressing the gathering, stated that the session was aimed at strengthening unity between Muslims and Christians and seeking lasting peace. He cautioned against politicizing security issues, arguing that claims of widespread unrest or poor Christian-Muslim relations in the state are “spreading falsehood.”
The Governor acknowledged that while no state is “100 per cent peaceful,” Kebbi has enjoyed relative peace compared to other states.
He stressed the importance of continuous prayers to sustain the existing harmony and peace.
The event, organized by the Ministry for Religious Affairs, successfully brought together Muslim and Christian clerics from all 21 local government areas of the state. They offered intercessory prayers specifically against banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity plaguing communities.
Dignitaries present included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu; and religious leaders such as the Chairman of the State Council of Ulama, Abubakar Riba, and the Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Femi Orofin.
