Barau FC Player Nana Abraham Attacked During NPFL Match in Katsina

A Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Katsina United and Barau Football Club was thrown into chaos on Saturday after a Barau player, Nana Abraham, was brutally attacked by enraged supporters of the home team.

The player sustained a deep cut on his neck and was pictured bleeding heavily amidst the pandemonium.

The violence erupted moments after Barau FC’s Orji Kalu scored a goal in the 69th minute to level the scores at 1-1, a development that visibly infuriated segments of the Katsina United supporters. Following the attack, the match, which was being played in Katsina, had to be temporarily halted as security operatives struggled to regain control and restore order on the pitch.

Barau FC immediately confirmed the shocking incident via a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The attack has once again brought the issues of fan violence and inadequate security management in Nigerian football stadiums to the forefront. There are now growing calls for the NPFL to take urgent and severe disciplinary measures against the perpetrators and the host club, Katsina United.

No immediate official statement was available from the NPFL management or Katsina United at the time of reporting.
