Nigeria Experiencing Steady Decline in Insecurity Over Past Two Years — Minister Alake

Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Henry Dele Alake, has stated that the country has witnessed a steady decline in incidents of insecurity over the past two years, describing the trend as evidence of the government’s sustained efforts to restore peace and stability nationwide.

Speaking on Thursday, Alake noted that while “every act of violence is one too many,” available data shows that Nigeria is on a positive trajectory toward improved national security.

“In the last decade in Nigeria, the last two years have recorded the lowest incidences of insecurity,” the minister said, commending the security agencies for their resilience and renewed coordination in tackling threats across the country.

Alake attributed the improvement to President Bola Tinubu’s comprehensive security strategy, which prioritizes intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration, and socio-economic initiatives targeting the root causes of crime.

He emphasized that the administration remains committed to ending terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime that have plagued parts of the country, stressing that peace and stability are essential for sustainable economic growth and investment.

“Security is not just about deploying forces; it is also about addressing unemployment, inequality, and community development. This government is taking a holistic approach,” he added.

The minister urged Nigerians to support the security agencies by providing timely information and avoiding the spread of misinformation that could undermine national efforts.

He further expressed optimism that with continued investment in security infrastructure and human capacity, the gains recorded so far would be consolidated in the coming years.

Alake reiterated that the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms, particularly in the extractive and economic sectors, would only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, assuring that the Tinubu administration remains unwavering in its resolve to safeguard the lives and property of all citizens.
