INEC Commences Distribution of Election Materials for Anambra Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials ahead of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The materials, which include ballot papers, result sheets, and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, were distributed from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Awka under tight security.

Officials from INEC, party agents, election observers, and journalists witnessed the exercise, which marked one of the final preparatory stages before the poll.

Addressing reporters during the flag-off, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, said the early distribution was to ensure that all logistics were in place before election day. She assured residents that INEC was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, and credible election across the 21 local government areas of the state.

“We have made adequate arrangements to ensure all materials get to their destinations on time. INEC is committed to transparency, and we encourage voters to come out and exercise their civic rights without fear,” Agwu stated.

INEC records show that Anambra has 2,802,790 registered voters, with over 63 percent having collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The commission has also accredited 114 observer groups and 76 media organizations to monitor the exercise.

Security agencies have reportedly deployed more than 55,000 personnel to ensure a peaceful voting process, while INEC has hired over 2,000 buses and 83 boats to facilitate the movement of materials, especially in riverine areas of the state.

Meanwhile, the European Union has announced the deployment of 687 election observers across the state to monitor logistics, media coverage, and inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in the voting process.

The Anambra governorship election is expected to be a keen contest among major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which currently controls the state government.

INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency through the use of technology, I particularly the BVAS for voter accreditation and the IReV portal for real-time upload of polling unit results.

Dr. Agwu appealed to residents to disregard fears of manipulation, saying the commission’s goal was to deliver “a peaceful and credible election that reflects the will of the Anambra people.”

As election day draws near, all eyes are on INEC to maintain its promise of integrity and efficiency, with the successful distribution of materials seen as a major step toward a smooth electoral process in Anambra State.
