Former Chief of Staff to Obasanjo, Gen. Abdullahi Mohammed, Dies at 86
Former Chief of Staff to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdullahi Mohammed (rtd.), is dead.
He reportedly passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence in Abuja at the age of 86.
Born in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, General Mohammed was a respected military officer, public administrator, and statesman who served Nigeria with distinction across several decades.
Before his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, Mohammed held several key positions in government. He was a former National Security Adviser (NSA) and also served in various capacities within the Nigerian Army, where he rose through the ranks before retiring as a Major General.
Known for his discipline, humility, and deep sense of duty, Mohammed played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s national security framework during the early years of the Fourth Republic.
Family sources said burial arrangements would be announced later in accordance with Islamic rites.
Tributes have begun to pour in from across the country, with political leaders, military officers, and associates describing him as a patriotic and dedicated servant of Nigeria.
