Court Grants Interim Forfeiture of Pretty Mike’s Lagos Nightclub Over Drug

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of a nightclub owned by popular socialite and entrepreneur, Mike Nwalie, popularly known as Pretty Mike, following allegations that the facility was being used for illicit drug storage and distribution.

Justice Musa Kakaki granted the interim forfeiture order on Tuesday after hearing an ex parte application filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) through its counsel, Buhari Abdulahi.

The property, identified as Proxy Night Club, located at No. 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, was said to be jointly managed by Pretty Mike and one Joachim Hillary.

According to the NDLEA, both men allegedly turned the establishment into a hub for narcotics distribution and preparation for a planned “drug-themed” event.

In a supporting affidavit deposed by Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Nasiru Garba Bungudu the agency stated that it received credible intelligence in late October indicating preparations for a large-scale drug gathering at the club. Acting on the information, NDLEA operatives raided the premises around midnight on October 26, 2025, arresting over 200 attendees, including the two owners.

During the operation, the agency reportedly recovered 169 cylinders of nitrous oxide commonly referred to as laughing gas—amounting to 384.662 kilograms and 200 grams of cannabis sativa Laboratory tests later confirmed the substances to be controlled drugs under Nigerian law.

The NDLEA further claimed that the nightclub had a record of hosting similar activities in the past, often with the knowledge of its operators. The agency told the court that the forfeiture request was necessary to prevent the premises from being used for further criminal purposes.

After reviewing the evidence presented, Justice Kakaki ordered that the property be placed under interim forfeiture to the Federal Government of Nigeria, pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution. He also directed that the nightclub remain sealed until further notice.

The court adjourned the case to January 28, 2026, for a substantive hearing on whether the forfeiture should be made permanent.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA has reiterated its warning to nightlife operators and event organisers across the country to desist from allowing their facilities to be used for illegal drug-related activities. The agency vowed to intensify its clampdown on “drug parties” and other gatherings promoting substance abuse.

Pretty Mike, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and controversial public appearances, has not publicly responded to the court order as of press time.
