10 Hostages Rescued From Kidnappers In Benue by Army

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued 10 kidnapped victims during a counter-operation against armed kidnappers in Benue State

The military said the rescue took place on November 3, 2025, after troops deployed at Kyado received credible intelligence about a kidnapping incident along the Zaki-Biam–Wukari road, at a location identified as Quarantine Checkpoint According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Whirl Stroke, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the kidnappers had disguised themselves in police uniforms to deceive unsuspecting travellers “Upon receiving the information, the troops mobilised swiftly to the scene. On sighting the approaching soldiers, the kidnappers fled in disarray into nearby bushes. The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects, following their tracks deep into the forest,” the statement read. During the search-and-rescue operation, 10 victims were successfully freed from the captors. Among the rescued individuals was Warrant Officer John Richard, a personnel of the 6 Brigade Band in Jalingo. However, two victims remain unaccounted for, with search efforts ongoing to ensure their safe recovery The rescued hostages were safely debriefed and handed over to relevant authorities for further action. The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry, swift response, and professionalism. He particularly praised the tactical commander for exemplary leadership and proactive measures in tackling criminal activities within the area. General Gara assured the troops that their dedication and sacrifices would not go unrewarded, urging them to sustain the momentum and continue upholding the principles of discipline and professionalism in all operations.
