President Tinubu Appoints Dr. John Nwabueze as Tax Ombudsman.
The Tax Ombudsman Office has been set up to boost transparency and accountability in the tax system, improve trust in tax management, and offer an organized means for fair and unbiased dispute resolution between taxpayers and tax authorities.
The Office is tasked with handling the intake, examination, and resolution of complaints concerning taxes, levies, regulatory charges, customs duties, excise-related issues, and other associated matters, ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations. The Tax Ombudsman is also tasked with overseeing that conflicts are handled efficiently, fairly, and cooperatively. This helps protect taxpayers' rights and prevents tax officials from exerting authority in an arbitrary or abusive way.
