King Charles Knights David Beckham Who Says It’s My “Proudest Moment”
Former England captain, David Beckham has officially been knighted by King Charles III in a ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, marking what the football legend described as the “proudest moment” of his life.
The 50-year-old, who earned 115 caps for England and starred for top clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain, was honoured for his exceptional contributions to sport and philanthropy.
“It’s quite a moment,” Beckham said in an interview with PA News after the ceremony. “For a boy from the East End of London to be here at Windsor Castle being recognised by His Majesty the King — the most respected institution in the world — this is without question my proudest moment.”
Beckham attended the investiture dressed in a tailored grey suit designed by his wife, Victoria Beckham, the pop star-turned-fashion designer who accompanied him alongside his parents, Ted and Sandra.
Speaking about the event, Beckham revealed that King Charles complimented his attire during their brief exchange. “He’s the most elegantly dressed man I know,” Beckham said with a smile. “I’ve always admired his style, especially from his younger years, and that actually inspired what I wore today. I showed some old pictures of him to Victoria and said, ‘That’s the look,’ and she made it happen.”
The former footballer, who has been known as “Sir David” since the honour was announced in June, said receiving the title carried deep personal meaning.
“I’ve always been a huge admirer of the monarchy,” he said. “I’ve achieved many things throughout my career, but becoming a knight of the realm is something I never imagined possible.”
Beckham’s knighthood represents the culmination of a decades-long journey that has seen him evolve from a promising footballer into a global ambassador for British sport, fashion, and culture.
He was previously tipped for the honour after playing a key role in London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
Now, years later, his transformation from football star to international icon has been officially recognised by the Crown.
With the honour, Victoria Beckham now bears the title “Lady Beckham,” further solidifying the couple’s place among Britain’s most celebrated public figures.
As Beckham summed it up, “From Leytonstone to Windsor Castle — it’s been quite a journey.”
