Shehu Sani Deplores Trump’s Threat, Charges Tinubu to End Killings, Kidnappings
Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has strongly reacted to the threat by former United States President Donald Trump of possible military action in Nigeria over alleged “Christian genocide,” urging President Bola Tinubu to urgently resolve the country’s security crisis.
The former Senator for Kaduna Central stated his opposition to any form of foreign intervention in Nigeria’s affairs.
Sani said he “stands unambiguously opposed to any act of Mr Donald J Trump foreign military aggression against my country under any guise, disguise or excuse.”
He also directly countered Trump’s description of Nigeria as “a disgrace,” declaring:
This “country is not ‘a disgraced country’ and will never be.”
While rejecting the foreign threat, Sani called on the Nigerian government to take decisive action to restore security and defend the nation’s integrity.
“I wish to also strongly call on the Government of my country to expedite action to crush terrorists and annihilate bandits and secure the lives of our people and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.”
He concluded with an urgent demand for improved security:
“The killings and kidnappings must be brought to an end. Thank you and God bless,” he said.
Sani’s remarks come as Trump’s threat to deploy the U.S. military to Nigeria following the reclassification of the country as a “Country of Particular Concern”continues to generate mixed reactions across the political spectrum.
