Police Declare 24-Year-Old Corps Member Missing in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has declared a 24-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Levi Anyanwu, missing.

Anyanwu, who was serving at the Ijaw National Academy in Kaiama, the headquarters of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, reportedly went missing on October 8, 2025.

The development has sparked concern among fellow corps members and residents of the area, prompting security agencies to intensify efforts to locate him.

According to reports, the state command has directed its Anti-Kidnapping Unit to commence a full-scale investigation into the disappearance to determine the circumstances surrounding it.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Musa Mohammed, said the command was doing everything possible to find the missing corps member.

“The Bayelsa State Police Command has received a report on the disappearance of a serving corps member, Mr. Levi Anyanwu, with NYSC registration number BYS/25A/0244.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take immediate measures to locate and produce the corps member,” the statement read in part.

The police also urged members of the public with useful information on Anyanwu’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or contact the command’s emergency numbers.

Meanwhile, colleagues of the missing corps member at the Ijaw National Academy have expressed shock over his sudden disappearance, describing him as diligent and responsible.

“We haven’t seen him since that day. His phone has been unreachable, and we are really worried,” one of the corps members told reporters.

The NYSC authorities in Bayelsa are said to be in close contact with the police as investigations continue.

The incident adds to growing safety concerns among corps members serving in remote areas across the country, despite repeated assurances from authorities about their welfare and security.
