Police Bolster Security, Deploy Helicopters, Drones, Tactical Teams for Anambra Polls

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security measures ahead of the November 8 governorship election, deploying helicopters, drones, and tactical teams to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise across the state.

Addressing journalists on Sunday in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed that the additional deployment was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, as part of a comprehensive operational strategy to guarantee voters’ safety and maintain law and order before, during, and after the election.

According to Orutugu, the reinforcement includes specialized units drawn from the Force Headquarters’ Advance Tactical Teams, who will work closely with local police formations to strengthen the existing security architecture in all 21 local government areas of the state.

“The Inspector-General of Police has demonstrated his commitment to free, fair, and credible elections by approving the deployment of these tactical assets.

The aerial surveillance using helicopters and drones will complement land-based patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special police squads already on the ground,” the CP stated.

He added that the command remains on high alert to prevent any form of violence or disruption during the election, assuring residents of the Force’s readiness to protect lives and property throughout the exercise.

While commending IGP Egbetokun for his continued support, Orutugu urged political actors, party supporters, and voters to conduct themselves peacefully and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.

The police chief also reassured the public that intelligence-led operations and round-the-clock monitoring would be sustained to forestall any attempt by criminal elements to undermine the poll.

With the deployment of cutting-edge technology and enhanced manpower, the Anambra Police Command said it is confident of delivering a secure environment for citizens to freely exercise their civic rights.
