Botched Coup Alleged Arrowhead Ma’aji, Once Served as Timi Sylva’s Security Adviser

Fresh details have emerged linking Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, the alleged coordinator of the recently foiled coup plot, to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timi Sylva.

According to credible information obtained, Ma’aji served as a security adviser to Sylva during the 2015 Bayelsa State governorship election. The revelation adds a new layer to the ongoing investigation into the attempted overthrow of Nigeria’s democratic government.

Security sources confirmed that Ma’aji is being regarded by investigators as a central figure in the failed plot, which allegedly involved a network of serving and retired military officers. His past political and security affiliations are now under scrutiny as authorities intensify their probe.

Meanwhile, multiple sources disclosed that security operatives recently conducted searches on Sylva’s residences in Abuja as part of the investigation. The former minister’s current whereabouts remain unclear, fueling speculation about his possible detention or questioning by security agencies.

However, Sylva’s media aide, Julius Bokoru, has strongly denied any connection between his principal and the alleged coup attempt.

In a statement released on Sunday, Bokoru dismissed the reports as “false, malicious, and politically motivated,” insisting that Sylva remains a law-abiding citizen with no involvement in any subversive activities.

“The former minister has no connection whatsoever to any coup or anti-democratic agenda. These claims are baseless and intended to tarnish his reputation,” Bokoru stated.

Investigations into the alleged coup plot are ongoing, with the Department of State Services (DSS) and military intelligence agencies said to be working jointly to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and identify all individuals involved.

The development has heightened political tension in Abuja and beyond, as the federal government reiterates its zero-tolerance stance against any threats to the country’s democratic order.
