Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom meant for their release in Kogi State.
The operation, which took place on Sunday, was carried out in Achigili Forest along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule road by soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Oguma.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja, the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the rescue followed credible intelligence about the activities of a kidnapping syndicate operating in the area and the relatives’ attempt to deliver ransom to secure the victims’ freedom.
“Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel. The criminals fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims and the ransom money,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the rescued victims a male and a female were in stable condition and had been handed over to their families after receiving medical attention.
Abdullahi reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining security and ensuring that criminal elements are flushed out of Kogi State and its environs.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and accurate information to support the ongoing efforts of security agencies in combating crime across the state.
The latest operation adds to the series of successful counter-kidnapping missions recently recorded by security forces in the North-Central region, underscoring the military’s determination to restore peace and safety on major highways.
