Run Again in 2027 Sokoto APC Youths Urge Governor Aliyu
A coalition of young members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has publicly urged Governor Ahmad Aliyu to contest for a second term, praising what they described as notable progress across the state under his leadership.
At a press briefing on Sunday, the group — calling itself the APC Youth Strategic Alliance for Continuity — highlighted projects and policy moves they say demonstrate the governor’s commitment to development and social welfare.
The alliance’s director-general, Musa Ladan Sokoto, told reporters the appeal was driven by tangible achievements rather than partisan considerations.
Ladan pointed to a string of interventions the youth leaders attributed to the administration, including road works, school and health facility upgrades, water and electricity projects, and initiatives aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs. He also commended the state government for improvements in worker welfare — noting the implementation of a new minimum wage, timely salary payments and the settlement of outstanding gratuities for retirees.
Security and religious engagement were other areas the youths singled out. According to the group, Governor Aliyu has strengthened local security coordination and supplied logistics to security agencies, which they say has helped reduce banditry and related criminality in parts of the state.
The coalition further applauded the administration’s support for religious institutions and moral programmes.
In a show of organised support, Ladan announced the youths’ intention to raise funds to buy the governor’s nomination and expression-of-interest forms when the electoral window opens, describing the plan as a gesture of appreciation for the governor’s stewardship.
“This is our way of saying thank you for his outstanding service,” he said.
Political analysts say endorsements from youth blocs can bolster an incumbent’s grassroots reach ahead of primary season, but they note that intra-party negotiations and zoning arrangements often shape final ticket decisions. While the Sokoto mobilisation is aimed at consolidating backing for Aliyu, other actors within the APC and opposition parties may present competing visions as the 2027 governorship race approaches.
The governor’s office has not yet issued an official response to the appeal. Party stakeholders and potential challengers are expected to clarify their positions as the party’s timetable for primaries and candidate selection becomes clearer.
