Nigeria Committed to Religious Freedom, Democracy, Affirms Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asserted Nigeria’s status as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty, while countering any characterization of the nation as religiously intolerant.

The President emphasized that Nigeria’s national reality does not support claims of religious intolerance, especially when considering the government’s consistent efforts to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all citizens.

President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s active approach since 2023, noting an open and continuous engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike.

He stressed that the administration continues to address security challenges that affect citizens across all faiths and regions of the country.

Key points from the President’s statement include:

* Constitutional Guarantee: Nigeria is a country where constitutional guarantees exist to protect citizens of all faiths.

* Core Tenet: Religious freedom and tolerance form a core tenet of the nation’s collective identity and will permanently remain so.

* Opposition to Persecution: Nigeria unequivocally opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it.

The President concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to working collaboratively with the United States government and the wider international community. This cooperation is aimed at deepening mutual understanding and strengthening efforts to protect communities of all faiths within Nigeria.
