Gunmen Kill Seven, Injure One in Fresh Kaduna Community Attack
Tragedy struck again in Kaduna State as gunmen launched a deadly attack on Damakasuwa community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area, killing at least seven people and leaving one other critically injured.
The attack, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, sent residents fleeing into nearby bushes as the assailants stormed the community, shooting sporadically and setting off widespread panic.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers operated for several minutes without any immediate intervention from security personnel, leaving the community vulnerable and in chaos.
The Paramount Chief of Chawai, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, confirmed the incident in an interview with journalists on Saturday. He explained that five victims were killed instantly during the assault, while two others who sustained critical gunshot wounds later died from their injuries.
“It was a very sad night for our people. Five were killed instantly, and two others who were rushed to the hospital could not make it. One person is still receiving treatment. We are deeply pained by this senseless act,” the monarch said.
He appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural communities in the area, which have continued to suffer repeated attacks by armed men.
According to local sources, many residents have been displaced, with some taking refuge in neighboring villages out of fear of further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to have been deployed to the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The latest attack adds to a series of violent assaults that have plagued parts of southern Kaduna, heightening concerns over insecurity in rural communities across the state.
