Chelle Gets Major Boost as Major Players Return to Action for World Cup Playoffs

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has received a significant boost ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff, as key winger Samuel Chukwueze has returned to full training following a recent injury setback.

Chukwueze, who plays for Fulham FC on loan, sustained a calf injury during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over the Benin Republic in October, which ruled him out of action for several weeks.

His absence was a major concern for both club and country, as the team faced uncertainty over his fitness ahead of the decisive playoff clash.

However, Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed this week that the 25-year-old has made a full recovery and resumed training with the first team. This development means the pacey forward is once again available for selection and could feature in Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon, scheduled to hold in Rabat, Morocco, on November 13.

Chukwueze’s return is a welcome relief for Coach Chelle, who has had to manage a growing injury list within the squad.

The winger’s creativity, speed, and goal threat on the right flank are seen as vital to Nigeria’s attacking strategy, especially in high-stakes encounters.

Sources within the national team camp say Chukwueze’s recovery has lifted the mood among players and staff, who view his availability as a major morale boost.

“He brings something special to the attack — the ability to stretch defences and create scoring chances from nothing,” a team insider said.

Chelle, who has been fine-tuning his tactics ahead of the playoff, expressed optimism about the team’s readiness, describing the match as “a must-win for Nigeria.”

The coach emphasized that qualification for the World Cup remains the ultimate goal and that every player must give their all to secure the ticket.

Nigeria’s final squad list for the playoffs is expected to be released in the coming days, but with Chukwueze’s return, Chelle’s options in attack appear much stronger.

The Super Eagles will face Gabon in what promises to be a tightly contested encounter as both sides battle for a spot at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

For Nigerian fans, Chukwueze’s comeback represents not just an injury update, but a timely piece of good news that could make the difference on the road to qualification.
