Police Nab Suspected Serial Rapist, Armed Robber Targeting Female Lagos Passengers

Crack detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, under the Lagos State Police Command, have apprehended a man alleged to be behind a series of violent attacks on women across the state.

The suspect, according to the police, is believed to have been involved in multiple cases of rape, defilement, assault, indecent assault, and armed robbery, primarily targeting female passengers who boarded his vehicle in different parts of Lagos.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and posted on the Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the arrest followed an intensive investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.

The statement revealed that after receiving multiple complaints from victims and disturbing social media reports about women being attacked or robbed by drivers, detectives launched a covert operation to track down the suspect.

“The painstaking investigation by the Police Joint Investigation Teams resulted in the arrest of this vicious and notorious suspect on October 31, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m.,” the statement said.

During the operation, police recovered a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, believed to have been used by the suspect in carrying out his crimes. The vehicle has since been impounded as evidence for prosecution.

The Command further disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices believed to have aided in the commission of the offences.

“The recovered vehicle has been secured as an exhibit and will be presented during prosecution. Investigation is being intensified to arrest other members of the criminal gang,” SP Adebisi added.

The Lagos State Police Command also appealed to victims of the suspect’s attacks to come forward and assist with relevant information that could strengthen the ongoing investigation.

“We urge anyone who may have fallen victim to this notorious suspect to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, to provide useful information and evidence,” the statement concluded.

The arrest comes amid growing public concern over the rising number of reported cases involving fake transport operators preying on unsuspecting commuters, particularly women, in Lagos.

The police assured residents that stringent measures are being implemented to curb such crimes and ensure the safety of all road users.
