New Service Chiefs Nominees Arrive National Assembly Complex For Senate Screening

The newly appointed service chiefs on Wednesday arrived at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja for their official screening by the Senate.

The exercise marks a major step in President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing restructuring of the nation’s security architecture.

The service chiefs, who arrived at the Senate Wing of the National Assembly around 10 a.m., were received by top lawmakers and aides ahead of the closed-door screening session.

They were accompanied by senior military officers and protocol officials as they made their way into the Senate chamber.

Their appearance comes after the Senate leadership announced a rescheduling of the screening exercise from next week to Wednesday, October 29, to allow for early confirmation and seamless transition in military command.

Among those being screened are the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff, all of whom were recently appointed by President Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s defence and security operations.

The screening session is expected to focus on the nominees’ strategic plans for addressing Nigeria’s prevailing security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, oil theft, and maritime insecurity.

Lawmakers are also expected to question the nominees on their professional experience, operational reforms, and commitment to improving inter-agency coordination in the fight against terrorism and other emerging threats.
