Two Cousins Gunned Down in Mamelodi East, Tshwane
Tragedy struck the Mamelodi East community of Tshwane over the weekend as two cousins, Thabo Maseko and Sibusiso Nkosi, were shot dead by unknown gunmen in what residents have described as a cold-blooded attack.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred late Saturday night near Extension 6, when the victims were ambushed by armed men while returning home from a family gathering. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before finding the two men lying motionless on the roadside.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident, saying an investigation has been launched to uncover the motive behind the killings. “We can confirm that two male victims, aged 27 and 31, were fatally shot by unknown suspects who fled the scene immediately. A case of double murder has been opened, and our detectives are following all possible leads,” she said.
The brutal killings have left the Mamelodi East community in shock, with residents expressing outrage over the rising levels of gun violence in the area. “They were good boys, always together. It’s heartbreaking to lose them like this,” said a neighbour, Martha Dlamini, fighting back tears.
Family members described Thabo and Sibusiso as hardworking young men who had dreams of building better lives for themselves and their loved ones. “They were more like brothers than cousins. We want justice — whoever did this must be found and punished,” said Nomsa Nkosi, an aunt of the victims.
Community leaders have since called for increased police patrols and stricter measures to curb violent crime, which has continued to plague parts of Tshwane in recent months.
The police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward or contact the nearest police station.
