CCB Probes Over 500 Asset Declaration Forms of Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Others
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has disclosed that it has investigated more than 500 asset declaration forms belonging to public officials, including ministers, permanent secretaries, and other top government functionaries.
According to the Bureau, the investigations were carried out by its newly established Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU) a specialized department created to strengthen transparency and accountability within the public service.
The CCB Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, made this known in Abuja in a statement marking his one-year in office.
The statement, which was signed by Mr. Moses Atolagbe, the Bureau’s Director of Special Duties, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
Dr. Bello explained that the FIFAU was established to enhance the Bureau’s capacity to scrutinize and analyze the financial disclosures of public officers, detect inconsistencies, and uncover potential cases of corruption or illicit enrichment.
“Within the past year, the Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit has successfully conducted detailed investigations on over 500 asset declaration forms filed by public officers across various ministries, departments, and agencies,” the statement said.
He added that the Bureau has also strengthened collaboration with relevant anti-corruption agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and NFIU, to ensure thorough and coordinated enforcement of the Code of Conduct for public officers.
The Chairman reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to ensuring full compliance with constitutional provisions on asset declaration, noting that failure to declare assets or false declaration remains a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
Dr. Bello further revealed that the CCB has been working to digitalize its asset declaration process, making it easier for public officials to comply while improving the Bureau’s monitoring and investigative efficiency.
“Our goal is to promote integrity and accountability in public office through proactive monitoring, efficient verification, and strict enforcement,” he stated.
He assured Nigerians that the Bureau will not relent in its mandate to uphold ethical standards and curb corruption in the public service
