APC Accuses Gov. Mutfwang of Self-Denial Over Alleged Defection Pressure
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of living in self-denial following his recent claims that certain individuals were pressuring him to defect to the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Plateau APC Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Namang, the party dismissed the governor’s remarks as a “desperate attempt to draw public sympathy and divert attention from his administration’s failings.”
According to the APC, Governor Mutfwang’s comments were “misleading and politically mischievous,” insisting that the party had no reason to lobby him, given his “waning popularity and poor performance in governance.”
“The APC has no interest in wooing Governor Mutfwang. He should rather focus on delivering good governance to the people of Plateau State instead of seeking cheap publicity through imaginary political plots,” the statement read.
The party further accused the governor of “projecting his own political insecurity,” arguing that the APC remains united and focused on consolidating its recent electoral gains in the state.
However, the Plateau State Government has yet to officially respond to the APC’s comments.
Governor Mutfwang had, during a public event last weekend, claimed that some political figures had approached him with offers and pressure to join the APC, a claim that quickly drew reactions from across the political spectrum in the state.
Political observers say the exchange underscores the tense political atmosphere in Plateau ahead of the next election cycle.
