US Lawmaker Insists 7,000 Christians Murdered in Nigeria This Year, Calls for Genocide Designation

A member of the U.S. Congress, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has publicly insisted that approximately 7,000 Christians have been killed across Nigeria this year, strongly renewing his call for the U.S. government to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged Christian genocide.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Rep. Moore described the ongoing violence as a tragedy that has been “going on for decades without anyone talking about it.” He provided startling statistics, claiming that the death toll translates to an average of 35 Christians murdered per day.

“7,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria this year. That’s 35 Christians murdered per day. It’s a tragedy that cannot be ignored any longer,” Moore stated.

The lawmaker confirmed that he, along with Senator Ted Cruz, sent a letter to the relevant authority to urge the redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), arguing, “It’s time we took a stand to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ.”

These claims come despite repeated counter statements from the Nigerian presidency. Presidential media aide, Daniel Bwala, has previously dismissed the allegations of religious targeting, insisting that the security crisis currently facing the country does not target any particular religion.

Rep. Moore’s statements, however, maintain that the violence is specifically directed at the Christian population.
