PDP South-East Lawmakers Threaten to Boycott National Convention Over Woman Leader Position

Members of the South-East Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives have issued a threat to boycott the party’s forthcoming national convention if the position of National Woman Leader is zoned outside the South-East region.

The convention is scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The position of the lawmakers was made public on Sunday by their spokesperson, Rep. Ikenga-Imo Ugochinyere.

He stated that the caucus will issue a formal disclaimer against the convention in two weeks if reports that the party has zoned the woman leader position outside the South-East are confirmed.

Ugochinyere warned that no elected lawmaker from the zone will remain in the PDP if this “impending insult is allowed to happen.”

The lawmakers specifically demanded that the position be ceded to Imo State. Ugochinyere argued that the earlier arrangement for Enugu State to produce the Woman Leader is now invalid because Governor Mbah and his woman leader nominee have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The caucus expressed deep concern over “confirmed information filtering in” that an arrowhead within the party is allegedly plotting to move the woman leader position out of the South-East and cede it to the South-South region.

Ugochinyere warned that such a move would provoke the entire South-East and alienate them from the Ibadan convention and the PDP as a whole, potentially compounding the party’s ongoing internal confusion.

The lawmakers appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to use his position as a Southern PDP leader to ensure the position is returned to the South-East and, specifically, to Imo State. “It would be very insulting to the South-East if a position that is there is taking away and given to the South-South,” he concluded.

The caucus expressed deep concern over “confirmed information filtering in” that an arrowhead within the party—identified in related reports as allegedly being influenced by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State—is plotting to move the woman leader position out of the South-East and cede it to the South-South region.
