NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Feed Mill, Seizes 200 Bags of Animal Feed in Kaduna

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal feed mill operating in Kaduna State, recovering over 200 bags of animal feed during a sting operation.

The operation, carried out by officials of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, followed credible intelligence on the activities of unlicensed producers engaged in the manufacture and distribution of substandard animal feed in the state.

According to the agency, the illegal facility was discovered to be operating without the necessary approvals or adherence to safety and quality control regulations, posing serious risks to livestock and, ultimately, human health.

In a statement issued on Friday, NAFDAC disclosed that the confiscated items included 200 bags of animal feed suspected to have been produced under unhygienic conditions and without proper labelling or registration numbers.

“Our officers acted on intelligence and discovered an unregistered feed mill producing and distributing animal feed without authorization. Such activities endanger public health and undermine the efforts of genuine producers,” the agency said.

The statement further revealed that the owner of the facility has been arrested and is currently assisting investigators, while samples of the seized products have been sent to NAFDAC’s laboratory for analysis.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the health of Nigerians by ensuring that all food and feed products in circulation meet approved quality standards.

“We will continue to clamp down on unlicensed manufacturers and distributors across the country. NAFDAC will not tolerate any act that compromises food safety or animal health,” the statement added.

Residents of the area commended the agency for the swift action, urging authorities to intensify surveillance on food and feed producers operating in the state
