Kebbi PDP Rejects Turaki’s Adoption as Northern Consensus Candidate for National Chairman
The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected the adoption of former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the Northern consensus candidate for the party’s National Chairman position. The rejection follows Turaki’s endorsement by a group of Northern PDP leaders, including governors and the acting National Chairman, ahead of the November 15-16 elective convention.
Following an emergency meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, Sani Dododo, the PDP Publicity Secretary for Kebbi State, read a statement asserting that the decision to endorse Turaki was made without the state chapter’s consultation.
Dododo emphasized Turaki’s detachment from the state party activities: “Kabiru Tanimu has never consulted the Kebbi State chapter about his intention to contest.
He has not participated in any party activities in the state.”
The Kebbi PDP chapter affirmed its full support for the position of North-West stakeholders, who argue that each state should retain the right to deliberate and select a suitable candidate in line with the party’s zoning system.
Consequently, the state chapter stated: “Naturally, the Kebbi State chapter rejects the decision to adopt the former Minister of Special Duties as the party’s consensus candidate.”
The rejection signals internal dissent following the Abuja meeting where Northern PDP leaders, including governors and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, endorsed Turaki as the consensus choice for the national chairmanship.
