APGA’s Ex-Presidential Candidate, Umeadi, Quits Politics
The 2023 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Justice Prof. Peter Umeadi, has announced his resignation from the party and his decision to withdraw completely from partisan politics.
Umeadi, a former Chief Judge of Anambra State, made the announcement in a letter personally signed by him and dated October 24, 2025.
The letter was addressed to the Chairman of APGA Ward 1, Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Onyekwelu Jideobi.
In the letter titled “Resignation from Membership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)”, Umeadi expressed gratitude to the party for offering him a national platform during the 2023 general elections, where he contested as APGA’s presidential flag bearer.
He wrote, “I respectfully write to resign from my membership of Nri Ward 1, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). By the same token, I withdraw from all partisan politics in Nigeria. I thank APGA for fielding me as its presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
The resignation of my membership from APGA and withdrawal from partisan politics in Nigeria take effect from today. Accept the assurance of my warmest regards.”
Justice Umeadi’s resignation marks the end of his brief but notable foray into partisan politics. Before venturing into the political arena, he had a distinguished judicial career and was widely respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s legal system.
His exit comes amid ongoing internal realignments within APGA, particularly in Anambra State, where the party continues to navigate leadership and structural challenges ahead of future elections.
As of press time, APGA had yet to issue an official response to Umeadi’s resignation.
