NEC Endorses Tinubu’s Plan to Renovate Security Agencies’ Training Institutions

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to renovate and upgrade all training institutions belonging to the nation’s security agencies.

The decision was reached during Thursday’s NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The move aims to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance professionalism, and improve the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture through modern, well-equipped training centres.

The renovation plan will not only cover police training institutions but also extend to those of other security agencies across the country. NEC also resolved that state governments will work collaboratively with the Federal Government to ensure full implementation of the initiative.

As part of the resolution, a special committee has been constituted to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the various institutions and make recommendations for immediate action. The committee is chaired by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, with governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa State among its members. Former Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The initiative underscores the Tinubu administration’s focus on addressing Nigeria’s internal security challenges by investing in capacity building and institutional reform rather than relying solely on operational deployments.

By integrating state participation and involving key stakeholders across the security sector, the plan is expected to foster better coordination, accountability, and sustainability in the country’s security training framework.

Observers see the move as part of a broader strategy by the Federal Government to modernize security institutions and strengthen inter-agency collaboration in tackling insecurity nationwide.
