Kwankwaso Warns Defectors: Betrayal Will Be Punished in 2027

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has issued a stern warning to those who have abandoned the NNPP or his Kwankwasiyya movement, asserting that they will face the political consequences of their actions in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Kano during his 69th birthday celebrations, Kwankwaso stressed that individuals leaving the movement are doing so “at their own peril,” declaring that their “political project will continue to punish betrayal.”

The 2023 NNPP presidential candidate stated emphatically: “At this point in time, if anyone thinks he can cross over and still come to Kano to win an election, such a person is only deceiving himself.”

He clarified that his political philosophy is driven by principles and loyalty, not enmity. He explained that those who leave either do so voluntarily or because they “went too far in misconduct” by publicly insulting or disrespecting the movement, forcing the leadership to “act.”

Kwankwaso addressed circulating reports of friction between him and the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, dismissing them as the work of “mischievous individuals.”

He insisted that there is no rift between him, the governor, or top government members, stating:

* “There is no problem between me and Governor Abba.”

* Governor Yusuf was chosen based on merit and long-standing loyalty dating back to 2019.

* Claims that he controls contracts or runs the government are mischievous and that “the truth will come out” in due time.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Kwankwaso expressed confidence that the process would be more transparent, signaling a shift away from past malpractices.

He warned those boasting of defeating the movement that they are “living in denial,” noting that young people are now more politically aware and that “The coming election will not be like previous ones where money determined everything.”

Kwankwaso reaffirmed his belief that the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement would remain a dominant, people-oriented force, ensuring that those who betrayed the cause will see the results of their actions at the polls.
