Police Nab Robbery Suspect Disguised as Corps Member in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber who disguised himself in a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform in a bid to evade security checks.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Chinecherem Ugwuagu, was apprehended by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol on October 11, 2025, along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect was intercepted while fleeing on a stolen Carter motorcycle believed to have been snatched from a victim in the 9th Mile area of Udi Local Government.
Items recovered from the suspect include a gun-like object fabricated from a lotion container wrapped in cloth, a bank ATM card, assorted clothes, and other exhibits.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ugwuagu had earlier broken into a residence in 9th Mile, where he used the imitation weapon to threaten his victim before stealing valuable items and escaping with the motorcycle.
The police further disclosed that the suspect wore an NYSC uniform to disguise himself and avoid detection at checkpoints while attempting to flee the area.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that the swift response of the Safer Highway Patrol team led to the suspect’s arrest.
He assured residents of the state that the police remain fully committed to ridding Enugu of criminal elements.
The suspect, police said, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
