Sowore Activated his Usain Bolt Skils, Very Dark Man Mock the activist

A dramatic yet humorous moment played out during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja when human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore reportedly dashed for safety as police fired tear gas and gunshots into the air to disperse demonstrators.

Videos circulating on social media show protesters scattering in different directions amid chaos, with Sowore allegedly among those who sprinted away when the security operatives advanced.

The activist, however, was said to have returned to the protest ground moments later to continue his demonstration, earning both ridicule and admiration online.

Social commentator and influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM) was among those who reacted to the incident, playfully mocking Sowore’s quick reflexes.

“Immediately the police fired tear gas, Sowore activated his Usain Bolt skills,” VDM quipped in a video. “He ran faster than his shadow! But the man still came back to protest again. You’ve got to respect that kind of energy.”

The protest, held to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), turned chaotic when police attempted to disperse the crowd.

Reports indicate that several individuals, including Kanu’s brother Emmanuel Kanu and his lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, were arrested and taken to the FCT Command.

Despite the tension, Sowore’s brief dash and swift return have become a major talking point online. While some Nigerians mocked the activist’s “Usain Bolt moment,” others praised him for his bravery and unwavering commitment to civil rights.

“Sowore may run from tear gas, but he always runs back to the fight,” one supporter posted on X (formerly Twitter). “That’s the kind of courage Nigeria needs.”

As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not released an official statement on the protest or the arrests.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and founder of Sahara Reporters, has remained one of Nigeria’s most vocal advocates for democracy and human rights. His presence at the protest further highlights ongoing public frustration over Kanu’s continued detention despite multiple court rulings ordering his release.
