Tunji Olaoye, Regains Freedom After Ransom Payment in Kwara
Relief and jubilation filled the community of Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the release of Mr. Tunji Olaoye, a prominent resident who was abducted by gunmen several weeks ago.
Olaoye, popularly known as “Egbon Tunji,” was reportedly freed after the payment of an undisclosed ransom to his captors.
Sources within the community confirmed that he was released safely and has since reunited with his family.
According to residents, Olaoye’s release brought great joy to the town, as friends, relatives, and community leaders gathered to celebrate his safe return.
“We thank God for his safe return. The entire community had been anxious since the incident, but today we are grateful that he is back alive,” one resident told reporters.
Local sources said the negotiation process involved traditional rulers, community elders, and local vigilante operatives who maintained communication with the kidnappers until an agreement was reached.
The circumstances surrounding Olaoye’s abduction including how long he was held and where he was taken remain unclear. However, his freedom has reignited calls for improved security presence across rural parts of the state.
“We cannot continue to live in fear,” another resident said. “We need regular patrols and better intelligence gathering to protect our people.”
The incident adds to the growing list of kidnapping cases in Kwara State and across Nigeria, where ransom-for-release has become an all-too-common occurrence.
Residents of Oro-Ago and neighboring communities have urged both state and federal authorities to take stronger action against the rising wave of insecurity.
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the incident or the ransom payment.
Mr. Olaoye is said to be in stable condition and recovering at home with family and friends after the traumatic ordeal.
