Troops Restore Calm Following Violent Clash Between Vigilantes, Herders in Gubio

Security forces successfully restored order in Gubio, Borno State, on Thursday afternoon following a violent clash between local vigilante groups and cattle herders at the town’s cattle market.
The confrontation, which erupted around 2:30 p.m. due to a disagreement, involved members of the Vigilante Group (VG), the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and nomadic herders. Identified participants included vigilantes Mohammed Nasuru (Alasura), Modugana Modu (Shoki) of the CJTF, Kadar Awana of the VG, and Abdullahi Salisu, a cattle herder, along with others who fled the scene.
Dangerous weapons were reportedly used, resulting in multiple injuries. A trader, Mustapha Babagoni, sustained injuries from pellets fired by a vigilante, while Nasuru suffered deep machete cuts to his leg and hand, and Salisu was injured on the forehead.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI were immediately deployed to the market to bring the situation under control.
The injured were transported to the Gubio Primary Health Care Centre, with Babagoni and Nasuru later transferred to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
Security sources confirmed that several suspects have been arrested and weapons recovered from the scene, with efforts underway to track down those who fled.
