Presidential Coalition Launches Grassroots Voter Mobilisation Drive Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Presidential Coalition Committee has kicked off a large-scale grassroots mobilisation initiative aimed at boosting voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection across Nigeria in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The official inauguration of the committee’s Structures and Street Captains took place on Saturday at the Police College Grounds in Ikeja, Lagos, drawing thousands of enthusiastic supporters from all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state.
According to organisers, the initiative seeks to take voter sensitisation directly to every street, home, and community, ensuring that more Nigerians are registered and ready to vote in the next electoral cycle.
Speaking during the event, the Lagos State Coordinator of the committee, Hon. James Faleke, urged the newly inaugurated Street Captains to spearhead voter engagement efforts in their respective communities.
“Today is not about campaigns; it is about civic duty,” Faleke said. “Each Street Captain must ensure that at least five new people in their area register or collect their PVCs. Go door-to-door, street by street, and remind everyone that without a PVC, their voice cannot be heard.”
Faleke revealed that over 40,000 Street Captains were inaugurated across Lagos, expressing confidence that their efforts would significantly deepen democratic participation, particularly among first-time voters and newly eligible youths.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Kolade Alabi, described the campaign as a bold step towards enhancing democratic inclusion and strengthening civic engagement at the grassroots level.
Alabi commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for policies he said are revitalising the economy and restoring investor confidence.
He highlighted key achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, such as infrastructural expansion, digital innovation, agricultural growth, and improved social welfare programmes. “We are driven by a shared vision of progress and national renewal,” Alabi said. “President Tinubu’s leadership continues to redefine governance, strengthen our institutions, and inspire confidence in Nigeria’s democratic future. His reforms may be challenging, but they are essential to building a stronger, self-reliant economy.”
He also noted that empowering local governments to function independently aligns with the administration’s goal of bringing governance closer to the people, calling it the “true essence of democracy.”
The event was attended by several political leaders who delivered goodwill messages, encouraging Street Captains to act as ambassadors of voter education and democratic values.
A symbolic swearing-in ceremony marked the conclusion of the programme, with participants pledging commitment to promoting voter awareness in their communities.
The mobilisation campaign comes amid growing concerns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over declining voter participation.
According to data from Dataphyte, only about 24.9 million of the 93.47 million registered voters took part in the 2023 general elections.
With the 2027 polls approaching, both civic groups and political organisations have begun early sensitisation drives to encourage Nigerians to register, collect their PVCs, and take an active role in shaping the country’s democratic future.
The Presidential Coalition Committee’s initiative forms part of these wider national efforts to revive public trust in the electoral process and foster a more inclusive democracy.
