Opinion: Sowore’s Planned Protest Should Be Treated as Insurrection

The planned protest organized by Omoyele Sowore calling for the release of a detained individual, described as a “terrorist facing prosecution,” has been labeled as an act of insurrection that warrants decisive governmental action.

The author contends that Sowore’s action should not be dismissed, suggesting it may serve as a “test on the readiness of the security forces” to handle potential future coup attempts.

It is argued that any individual clamoring for the release of someone accused of causing the deaths of thousands of innocent people is “equally a terrorist.”

The opinion piece criticizes the Nigerian government for having “tolerated and over pampered Sowore too much,” allowing him to grow in “sedition” and openly celebrate “treasonous acts.”

The author insists that someone who openly calls for “revolution now” should not be treated as a civil rights activist but as an insurrectionist, advocating for the cutting off of his “rebellious wings.”

Furthermore, the author points out that Sowore is a resident of the United States, a country that has arrested and detained activists under terrorist laws, yet he chooses to avoid causing trouble there and instead runs to Nigeria.

The conclusion is that the planned protest is a “coordinated attack to destabilize the country,” a threat to national security and sovereignty, and must be “tamed promptly and proportionately” without political correctness.
