JAMB Denies Suspending Candidate’s Profile, Blames “Conflict Entrepreneurs” for False Report

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked claims that it suspended the profile of a candidate, Monsuru Aduragbemi, insisting the allegation was a deliberate act of misinformation sponsored by what it described as “conflict entrepreneurs.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board said the viral report wrongly accused JAMB of disobeying a court order that instructed parties to maintain the status quo in a case involving Aduragbemi and two universities, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
JAMB clarified that the candidate had already withdrawn from both institutions before the legal action commenced.
According to the statement, Aduragbemi was no longer affiliated with either university as of September 25, 2025, when the suit was filed, or September 30, when the court issued the order.
The examination body explained that the alleged suspension message cited in media reports was simply an automated system alert triggered whenever a candidate’s profile is locked to prevent alterations.
“The suspension message being mischievously misrepresented is a usual programmed default message that pops up on any profile on which any alteration by the Board officials, institutions or candidate had been restricted,” JAMB stated.
Benjamin added that the restriction extended to both OAU and UNILAG, as neither institution is permitted to finalise admission lists while the court order remains active.
“It was when the fraudulent effort to tamper with the status quo became unsuccessful that those sponsoring her apparently became frustrated and resorted to media blackmail in a bid to pressurise the Board into violating the court order,” he said.
Reiterating its adherence to due process, JAMB said it would neither breach judicial directives nor engage in a public media contest.
“As a law-abiding government agency, JAMB remains fully committed to upholding the rule of law and complying strictly with judicial directives,” the statement added.
The board urged Nigerians to disregard the “fabricated reports” and warned individuals circulating false information to desist from using candidates as pawns for “self-promotion and mischief.”
