Idris Denies Claim APC Will Control 30 States by 2030

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has denied reports quoting him as saying that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will control 30 states in Nigeria by the year 2030.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Idris described the report as “false, mischievous, and politically motivated,” noting that he never made such a comment in any official engagement or interview.

According to him, his recent remarks at a public event in Abuja were focused solely on the government’s communication strategy, national reorientation efforts, and the importance of transparency and accountability in governance — not partisan politics.

“I did not, at any point, make a political forecast or prediction about the number of states the APC would control by 2030,” the minister clarified. “My focus remains on delivering accurate information to Nigerians about government policies and programmes, not party propaganda.”

He urged journalists and media platforms to verify information before publication to avoid misleading the public and escalating political tensions.

Idris reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values, freedom of expression, and media responsibility, adding that “disinformation poses a serious threat to national unity and progress.”

The minister’s clarification comes amid rising political speculations about the APC’s dominance ahead of future elections, with several opposition figures accusing the ruling party of attempting to entrench itself in power across the federation.
