Gunmen Kill Woman, Two Daughters in Anambra, Son Escapes Death

Tragedy struck in Anambra State on Saturday when unknown gunmen attacked a family travelling through the state, killing a mother and her two daughters while the son narrowly escaped death.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Ngozi Nwafor and her daughters, Miss Martha Ogochukwu and Miss Uchenna Mary Nwafor, were travelling with Mrs. Nwafor’s son, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Nwafor, when the assailants opened fire on their vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred along a rural road in one of the state’s flashpoint areas notorious for armed attacks.
The gunmen, suspected to be either hired assassins, kidnappers, or insurgents, reportedly ambushed the family’s car and riddled it with bullets.
According to sources, Ifeanyi managed to escape from the scene with gunshot wounds, while his mother and sisters died on the spot. The gunmen fled before security operatives could arrive.
Police authorities in Anambra confirmed the incident, describing it as “tragic and deeply unfortunate.” The spokesperson for the state police command, Toochukwu Ikenga, said an investigation has commenced to uncover the motive behind the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We are following credible leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. The Commissioner of Police has ordered increased patrols in the area to prevent further attacks,” the spokesperson said.
The killings have sparked tension in the local community, with residents calling on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts in curbing the rising wave of armed violence across Anambra.
The bodies of the deceased have reportedly been deposited at a nearby mortuary, while the survivor is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The incident adds to the growing number of violent attacks recorded in the South-East in recent months, fueling fears of worsening insecurity in the region.
