Finance Minister Wale Edun Debunks Illness Rumours, Appears in Good Health at Abuja Meeting

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has dismissed rumours about his alleged ill health after making a public appearance in Abuja on Sunday.
Edun, who had been the subject of unverified online reports suggesting he was battling a serious ailment, appeared in good health and high spirits at an official engagement held at Fraser Suites in the nation’s capital.
The minister attended a high-level meeting alongside the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and a delegation from Qatar.
The closed-door session reportedly lasted for more than an hour and centered on strengthening economic and investment relations between Nigeria and the Gulf nation.
Eyewitnesses and officials who attended the meeting described Edun as “energetic and deeply engaged,” noting that he contributed actively to policy discussions and shared insights on Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.
A senior aide who spoke with journalists after the meeting said, “The minister is very well. The reports circulating about his health are completely false. As you can see, he is fully engaged in his duties and focused on driving Nigeria’s economic growth.”
Edun’s public appearance comes amid growing speculation on social media about his health status, which had prompted concern among Nigerians and within government circles. His outing on Sunday appears to have put those rumours to rest.
The meeting with the Qatari delegation forms part of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and trade sectors.
Since assuming office, Wale Edun has played a key role in implementing President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, including fiscal realignment, foreign exchange unification, and investment-driven growth strategies.
