There Is Only One Political Party in Nigeria — APC, Boasts Uzodimma

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become the only truly dominant political party in Nigeria, crediting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance for the wave of defections from opposition parties.
Speaking during a political gathering in Owerri, Uzodimma said that the ruling party’s growing influence is evident in the steady influx of lawmakers and governors into its ranks from other parties.
“The truth is that there is only one political party in Nigeria, and the name of that political party is APC,” the governor said.
“If you go to the National Assembly every day, you will see senators and representatives moving to the APC. If you look to the left, you will see governors leaving their parties and joining the APC. All this is happening because of the performance of President Bola Tinubu.”
Uzodimma, who also serves as chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), said Tinubu’s administration has shown strong leadership and a commitment to economic recovery, security, and infrastructure development qualities that, he argued, are attracting support across party lines.
He added that the APC remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of national progress, unity, and stability.
The governor’s comments come amid a series of high-profile defections to the APC in recent months, particularly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), as political realignments intensify ahead of the next general elections.
Political observers note that Uzodimma’s statement underscores the APC’s growing confidence in consolidating power nationwide, even as opposition leaders accuse the ruling party of using state influence to lure politicians.
For the Imo governor, however, the trend signals a simple truth: “The people have seen where progress lies and that is with the APC.”
