Senator Wamakko Urges Nigerians to Embrace Technical, Vocational Education to Tackle Unemployment

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has passionately appealed to Nigerians to prioritize technical and vocational education (TVE) as the definitive solution to the nation’s high unemployment rate.
The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, stressed this point during an event at the National Business and Technical Education Examinations Board (NABTEB) office in Sokoto.
Wamakko underscored that technical and vocational skills offer the “only sustainable way to empower people,” ensuring their future productivity and self-reliance. To demonstrate his commitment to this cause, the former Governor of Sokoto State donated a fully furnished office complex to NABTEB.
He described the gesture as the beginning of a key partnership and pledged to rally other lawmakers, former governors, and business leaders to support NABTEB’s mission. He stressed that supporting NABTEB, which sets the standards for TVE, is a direct investment in Nigeria’s future workforce and its economic growth potential.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, the NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive, hailed Senator Wamakko’s action as a “monumental act of patriotism and a testament to his visionary leadership.” Dr. Mohammed noted that the new facility would significantly enhance NABTEB’s operational capacity and administrative efficiency, particularly in Northern Nigeria. He reiterated that the government cannot address the education sector’s needs alone and called on other patriotic Nigerians and corporate organizations to invest in TVE, affirming that the sector’s future relies on “collective effort and sustained investment.”
