NYCN Cautions Nigerian Youths Against Participating in ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ Protest

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has cautioned Nigerian youths against participating in the planned “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, urging them to “stay out of trouble.”

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Barr. Buhari Shehu, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, the NYCN expressed concern that the protest could lead to a breakdown of law and order, jeopardizing lives and property.

The council cited two main reasons for its advisory:

* A reported Federal High Court Order obtained by the Nigerian Police Force which allegedly restrains the organizers and participants from carrying out the protest.

* A security warning issued by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, advising U.S. nationals to avoid the planned protest, which the NYCN used to emphasize the potential risks involved.

The NYCN implored Nigerian youths to “prioritize peace, stability, and national security” and explore lawful, alternative means of expressing their grievances and demands.
