I’d Rather Be Rich and Based in Lagos Than Anywhere Else in the World,’ Says British Returnee

A British returnee has set social media abuzz after expressing his deep affection for Lagos, declaring that he would rather be rich and based in the bustling Nigerian city than anywhere else in the world.

In a video that has since gone viral, the returnee, whose identity remains undisclosed, spoke passionately about his admiration for Nigeria’s commercial capital a city often described as the heartbeat of West Africa.

“I’ve travelled across different countries, but there’s something special about Lagos,” he said. “The energy, the people, the lifestyle it’s unmatched. If you have money here, life is sweet. I’d rather be rich and based in Lagos than anywhere else in the world.”

The clip, which was reposted by social media influencer Blord Odumodu, quickly gained traction online, drawing a mix of praise, amusement, and debate among Nigerians at home and abroad.

Supporters applauded the returnee’s confidence and love for his home country, describing his words as a refreshing show of patriotism in a time when many young Nigerians seek opportunities overseas. “He’s absolutely right,” one user commented. “Lagos may be tough, but if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.”

However, others took a more critical stance, pointing out the daily challenges Lagos residents face including heavy traffic, overcrowding, and high living expenses. “It’s easy to say that when you’re rich,” another user quipped.

Still, the statement has reignited conversations about Lagos’ unique appeal. Despite its chaos, the city remains a magnet for dreamers, entrepreneurs, and returnees who believe that success in Lagos carries a different kind of pride.

From its thriving entertainment and tech industries to its fast-paced urban culture, Lagos continues to embody the spirit of ambition and resilience that defines modern Nigerian.
