Harvard Tops Global List of Universities That Produced the Most Billionaires
A new global ranking has revealed the universities that have produced the highest number of billionaires, with American institutions once again dominating the list.
According to the latest billionaire education index, Harvard University leads the world with 104 billionaire alumni, reaffirming its reputation as a breeding ground for global business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Stanford University follows closely with 69 billionaires, while the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) ranks third with 38. Other Ivy League schools such as Columbia University (32), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, 28), Yale University (24), and Cornell University (22) also made the top ten.
Notably, the University of Mumbai (22) in India is the only non-U.S. university in the top eight, reflecting Asia’s growing influence in wealth creation. Tsinghua University (19) and Peking University (14), both in China, as well as Moscow State University (13) in Russia, also feature among the world’s leading billionaire-producing institutions.
Other U.S. universities completing the top 15 include New York University (18), University of Southern California (17), University of California, Berkeley (15), and University of Michigan (15).
Analysts say the list underscores the concentration of wealth and opportunity around top-tier educational institutions, particularly in the United States, where a blend of innovation, access to capital, and strong alumni networks have helped nurture generations of ultra-wealthy entrepreneurs.
Experts also note that the emergence of Asian universities especially in India and China signals a shift in the global economic landscape, as the region continues to produce more self-made billionaires in technology, finance, and manufacturing.
